Metropolitan District General Explanation
The Sorrel Ranch Metropolitan District is a Title 32 Special District that has been established for the purpose of financing and installing street, park and recreation, water, sanitation, and safety protection improvements of the District; and all other improvements or services permitted by Article 1, Title 32, C.R.S. (collectively, the “Public Improvements and Services”), except as specifically limited by the Amended and Restated Service Plan for the District approved by the City of Aurora, Colorado, on August 30, 2004, as modified effective August 14, 2006, as amended March 24, 2025, and as it may be further amended from time to time (the “Service Plan”).
The Public Improvements and Services are for the use and benefit of the residents and taxpayers of the District. The District is located in the City of Aurora, Arapahoe County, Colorado. The District is a quasi-municipal political subdivision of the State of Colorado authorized to provide specialized services that the City of Aurora does not provide.
The District may incur a maximum debt of $35,000,000. Ad valorem property tax revenues, specific ownership tax revenues, and any other legally available revenue of the District may be used to repay such debt.
The District may assess a maximum mill levy of fifty (50) mills to repay such debt. Such maximum mill levy is subject to adjustment for changes in the method of calculating assessed valuation or any constitutionally mandated tax, credit, cut or abatement on or after January 1, 2004.
The District must file an Annual Report with the City of Aurora and the Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder.
The District’s boundaries overlap with the boundaries of Cherry Creek School District No. 5, Arapahoe County, City of Aurora, East Cherry Creek Valley Water and Sanitation District, Regional Transportation District, Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, Urban Drainage and Flood Control District – South Platte, and West Arapahoe Conservation District.

Matters of an emergent nature do NOT include emergencies, which should be directed to the appropriate emergency personnel by contacting 9-1-1, or matters which can wait until regular business hours, which should be addressed via any of the methods available on the "Contact Us" page:
